Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
(Psalm 27:14 (NIV))
No one likes to wait!
We want instant gratification in every aspect of our lives. We like fast food. We like drive through coffee shops. We purchase far too many microwaveable foods. We want our news in small snippets so that we can move on to the next story that catches our attention. We don't like to wait for anything! Just because we have all of the technology at our fingertips, we think that we are wise, but what we really possess is a shallow, self-centered ego that is not willing to spend any time waiting for the truth, let alone spending time searching for the truth.
Truth is found in only one place!
It is found only in the Lord!
We must willing to wait.
I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
(Psalm 40:1 (NIV))
We must be willing to sit in stillness. We must be willing to humble ourselves and know Him and not simply accept our predisposed ideas of who He is.
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
(Psalm 46:10a (NIV))
Do you desire to truly know the Lord? I almost asked if you truly know the Lord, but He is far beyond our ability to comprehend all that He is. We can know some of His nature, which prayerfully will draw us in to a desire to know more and more of Him. In our limited understanding, we can only begin to fathom the depths of His love, the depths of His heart.
I don't know about you, but I desire to know Him more and more. I love to spend time in His Word. I love to praise Him even when my heart doesn't feel like praising. In the things that I encounter on my day to day walk, I pray that I will have the strength to wait for His majesty to be unfolded before me. I long to know Him more!
Do you pray for the strength to wait?
