Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Ephesians 5:20 (NIV))
When do you give thanks to the Lord?
Are you like most people and thank Him when He turns a situation from bad to good?
What happens if bad is all that you know? Do you still thank the Lord?
What happens when things are good for a long time? Do you start to believe that things are good of your own doing? Do you find yourself forgetting to thank the Lord during these times?
What if you were persecuted because you choose to follow the Lord? Would you give Him thanks then? Would you recognize that the world sees you as His? Would you be thankful for that identification?
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
(John 15:18-19 (NIV))
Life in this sinful, fallen world is filled with uncertainty. We don't know what tomorrow will bring. We don't know what each day will hold, but we can rest assured in the knowledge that we know who holds each day in the palm of His hand. With that knowledge, those who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior should never be less than thankful for what they have received. No matter the situation and no matter the outcome, we know that we are in His eternal hands.
With that said, I have but one question left.
What does always mean to you?
