I have traveled another year around the sun. Which, obviously, is no small thing. It's quite an achievement to say that I'm still here and still kicking. I'm grateful for the time given, even on the bad days.
Unfortunately for this year, my birthday (August 1st) was a doozy of a bad day. I spent most of it writhing on the couch in agony because Mother Nature does not care that I'm middle-aged and of a mind not to have any more children. Being female is fun (sarcasm activated).
I refused to be deterred, however. Birthdays are the perfect excuse to celebrate life and your interests. I make darn certain my boys have birthdays that honor their unique characteristics and tastes, and sometimes I have to remind myself that I am worth that extra care and attention, too. So, I subjected my rabblerousers to a tea party (on August 2nd). Mwhahaha!
The cottagecore aesthetic was strong with this one. I made chocolate-dipped madeleines, mushroom-shaped brownies, strawberry cake, the best raspberry scones ever, choc chip cookies, tea sandwiches, and tarts. Not everything turned out perfectly scrumptious or beautiful, but that wasn't the point. Baking, to me, is a form of play, and I was able to experiment and design to my heart's content. Seriously though, I will be making those scones again! The strawberry crème filling in the cake wasn't too bad either!
So, even though this yearly journey on the flying blue-green marble in space started off a bit rocky, I can confidently say that along the way, I'm certain I will be able to find (and taste) the sweet side of things.
Here's to 42!
