Evening, Kiawah Island
"In my photography, color and composition are inseparable."
William Albert Allard
This week John challenges us to share images that highlight cool colors. Generally they are acknowledged to be green, blue and purple as well as shades of neutrals gray and white. They are colors that tend to seem calm and are often found in places like sky and water. I've opened above with some blues and purples captured in the twilight and night skies here on Kiawah. Blues and greens during the daytime here can also be lovely. The image below is a scene I often capture as I pass it by most days walking to the beach from home.

"Color is very much about atmosphere and emotion and the feel of a place."
Alex Webb
One more Kiawah image, this time captured in a forested area. I was drawn to the simplicity of the branch as it hovered over the light on the water below.

"Before I commenced photography I did not see half the beauties in nature that I do now,"
Samuel Borne
There is beauty everywhere in this wide world if we are open to seeing it. Photographers tend to be more aware of it but it's a skill anyone can master. The simplicity of nature, such as in the image above and in the set that follows, is there for the seeing, and of course for photographing. I've featured my visit with good friends to Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio more than once through the years. I was stunned at its beauty and am certain my husband and our friends would have liked to move along a bit more quickly 😊. Here are two of my favorite images - you can almost feel the cool air just looking at them.

"Both the grand and the intimate aspects of nature can be revealed in the expressive photograph."

Yet another nearby adventure created skies that fit John's Challenge perfectly. I captured it as a huge storm moved into the mountains of North Carolina during a stay my husband and I enjoyed not long ago.

"The water rolls, the clouds move and light reflects off all it touches. "
Steve Coleman
I've included two more image from our travels, the first from this month's trip to Colorado. It reminded me just a bit of the famous T.A. Moulton barn in Grand Teton National Park. The second is from a bit longer ago and further away. Captured in beautiful Ha Long Bay of Vietnam, the moody skies were the perfect atmosphere of cool blue-gray colors.

"What you bring in your mind to the scene is what makes your picture."
Fred Herzog

"Art helps us see with new eyes."
Robert Hall
Finally, a simple diptych of two lovely blooms - both are examples of the quality of the color purple.

"Every photo i take is a piece of my life i will never get back, but i will always be able to see again and again."
Malcolm Flowers
