British daily The Telegraph claimed on August 2, 2024 that Israeli intelligence agency Mossad used its Iranian agents to eliminate Ismail Haniyeh, the Chairperson (Political Bureau) of the Palestinian Hamas Movement! The daily also published a video footage to support this claim.
According to The Telegraph, Israel had planned to assassinate Haniyeh by triggering a blast during the funeral of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19, 2024. However, the Zionist Regime scrapped the plan as many innocent civilians could be injured in that case. As per an article published in the daily, Mossad planted a total of three remote-controlled bombs in three different rooms of the Neshat guesthouse (in northern Tehran) where the top Hamas leader spent the final night of his life after attending the swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on July 30. The Telegraph further claimed that two Iranian agents of Mossad were involved in this operation. It had been those agents who remotely detonated one of those bombs at around 2am (local time)!
In the published video, the two men are seen frequently entering several rooms inside the guesthouse. The Telegraph reported that these two persons could be members of the elite Ansar al-Mahdi Unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It seems from the video that they served as Mossad agents. It may be noted that the Ansar al-Mahdi Unit is responsible for the security of this high-security government guesthouse.
Meanwhile, the Government of Iran has started a massive crackdown to detain people who helped Mossad to eliminate Haniyeh (who used to consider the Islamic Republic as the safest place for him). The IRGC has already arrested more than two dozen military and intelligence officers. The investigating officers of IRGC are of the opinion that there was no bomb hidden in the guesthouse two months ago as reported earlier. Instead, the perpetrators most probably used a short-range projectile with a warhead of about 7kg to kill the top Hamas leader on that fateful night! The investigators believe that Mossad was able to breach the tight security cordon around the Neshat guesthouse with the help of these Iranian Army personnel and intelligence officers. Tehran has alleged that the Israeli intelligence agency had the full support of the Joe Biden Administration in this venture, as well!
Since the demise of Haniyeh, the Palestinian Movement has been busy in choosing his successor. The local media have reported that Khalil al-Hayya, the member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, former Deputy Chairperson of Hamas' Political Bureau Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, Zaher Jabarin, the long-time Treasurer of Hamas (who was close to Haniyeh), former Chairperson of Hamas' Political Bureau Khaled Mashal or senior Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Ibrahim Hassan Sinwar, might replace Haniyeh as the Head (Political Bureau) of the Palestinian Movement.
As expected, the situation in West Asia has become quite complicated and tense after the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah Commander Fuad Shukr in Lebanon and Mohammed Deif, the Head of Hamas' military wing Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, in Gaza in the last week of July 2024.
Iran Plans To Attack Israel During Tisha B'Av!
(Talk Diplomacy) Western intelligence sources have claimed that Iran is planning an attack on Israel during Tisha B'Av, in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The attack, expected to be coordinated with Hezbollah, targets the Jewish day of mourning on August 12-13, which commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei has vowed revenge, and the timing of the attack aims to exploit the emotional significance of Tisha B'Av for the Jewish Israelis. Targeting significant Jewish observances for attacks is not unprecedented. Historical examples include the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and the more recent attacks on October 7 (2023), coinciding with Simchat Torah and Shabbat. The choice of Tisha B'Av aims to evoke historical trauma and amplify psychological distress among Israelis.
The planned attack seeks a tactical advantage, potentially catching Israeli Security Forces off guard. Sky News Arabia suggests that such an attack could send a powerful message to the Islamic World about Israel's vulnerability and might prompt international political efforts to address the conflict!
In addition, an attack on Tisha B'Av could boost the morale of the Palestinian groups and also demonstrate Iran's ongoing support. Previous Iranian attacks, such as the one in April where most missiles were intercepted by Israel, highlight the ongoing threat and the resilience of Israel's defence systems. The Israeli defence systems successfully intercepted 99% of those projectiles, resulting in minimal damage to an Israeli Air Force base.
