Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
(Romans 13:8 (NIV))
Today's society has reversed this concept!
We have credit cards, car payments, house payments, and who knows what else, and, yet, most of us do not even know our neighbors. We spend so much time focusing on "self" that we do not have the time to do what God has called us to do. This not only applies to our immediate neighbors, but also to those whom we do not even "know" or recognize.
Do you remember the parable of the Good Samaritan?
Jesus was trying to show us that all people are our neighbors and that all people are created by God.
Self indulgence, self centeredness, self gratification, and looking out for number one are all expressions of the same malady in which we forget others and focus only on our immediate families and in some instances, only ourselves. This is not a principle that God desires or that Jesus taught, yet, our society clings to it more so than it clings to Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Perhaps it is time for each of us individually and collectively to re-evaluate our priorities and the things that we are indebted to. Jesus taught that no man can server two masters. How can we serve debt and our fellow man through Jesus Christ at the same time?
What debts do you have outstanding?
