Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
(Psalm 23:6 (ESV))
As I read this passage, I know without any doubts that this is what I desire more than anything.
Still, sinful, fallen human nature keeps raising its ugly head and tempting me to do things that I know I shouldn't do and that I don't want to do. I also know that I am not alone in what I face.
For those who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, we desire His goodness and mercy over our sinful nature and death. We desire a peace that passes all understanding. We desire more than what this world has to offer. We desire to be in the presence of the Lord for all eternity.
Have you come to these same conclusions as to what you want, what you desire, as you pass through this world that is not our home?
We have a choice to make. We must make that choice every single moment of every single day. We must decide to seek after the Lord and His goodness and mercy or we will fall pray to the lies of the enemy and the temptations of this world. Are you strong enough to seek the Lord in all that you do? Most people are not. We fail miserably at times, yet we can repent and experience God's goodness and mercy once again. It is when we feel that we have done more than He can forgive that we lose our on His goodness and mercy. He doesn't take the offer away. We walk away from it!
Think about that for a moment.
If someone wanted to give you the greatest gift that this world has to offer and you simply turned your back on the gift, does that mean that the one desiring to give the gift changed their mind?
God's gift is always there for you to repent and accept. We must desire to cast away our sinful nature and clothe ourselves with His righteousness. It is your choice.
Is this your desire?
