A shopper spotted a poster outside the brand's store at Jem, suggesting that its new bag can contain stacks of 7" vinyls or dozens of USB sticks, a pair of headphones and... a vape!
A bag that can fit many things is always a plus. But, should a bag's selling point be how capacious it is that it can fit, among other things, a vape—those e-vaporisers that we know are banned here? Crumpler, the bag brand from Australia, reportedly put out a poster in front of their Jem store with copy that read: "Cosmic Taco is the perfect fit for 35 7 inches, or about 200 USB sticks, a vape and a pair of headphones." A shopper spotted the paper sign at the Crumpler store in Jem and wrote to the 'Forum' page of The Straits Times, wondering if it is "appropriate" for the brand to suggest that the bag can accommodate e-cigarettes when "vaping is illegal in Singapore". According to ST, the Health Sciences Authority is investigating to see if the law is broken.
The bag in question is one of two of a second-time collaboration with the Melbourne DJ Andee Frost. It was launched on Record Store Day last April. The smaller of the pair, the Cosmic Taco (pictured above) is a squarish, quilted crossbody that is designed primarily for carrying vinyl singles around. It is not known why Crumpler thought that adding a vape and other items when not used for records would make the Cosmic Taco more appealing. According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia, "from 1 January 2024, the importation of disposable vapes will be prohibited, subject to very limited exceptions. The ban will apply to disposable vapes irrespective of nicotine content or therapeutic claims." Apparently, the poster sported the original text from the Crumpler website, which has been edited to omit the word "vape". It is not known when the amendment was made. Crumpler touted the bags as those "made for all DJ's by the DJ!" Do DJs vape? Are they cooler if they do?
