Souper Tang KSL

As a Cantonese, soup is like a staple in our meals so when we passed Souper Tang in KSL Mall, we were immediately enticed by their soup offerings

Located on the first floor of KSL Mall, Souper Tang is a Malaysia-based restaurant group with many notable awards. Founded by Datin Sri Dato' Cynthia Teh and her husband – a qualified TCM doctor, the owners' wealth of knowledge accumulated from their foundation medicinal hall background and their expertise in preventative medicine and routine care through herbal soup preparation led them to create Souper Tang

The outlet at KSL mall is separated into 2 areas, the more spacious side houses bigger round table seats for bigger groups whereas the area right in front of the entrance with smaller table settings for small groups

Focused on giving customers the full benefits of Chinese herbs while providing well-balanced meals, the menu is made up of many dishes which is both nutritious and enticing. Different from the usual perspective of herbal dishes, the ones at Souper Tang look appetizing

The first dish served was the home braised pork belly in rich dark sauce which is kind of like their version of Kong Bak Bao as the meat was served with thin slices of Mantou bun. As the dish was served on a hot plate, the meat was at the right temperature which is key for pork belly so the fats do not turn greasy. The flavour of the meat was sweeter than expected which vaguely reminds me of char siew but with a strong soy taste. It is overall great with rice as it is too salty and sweet to eat on its own

The next dish we had was the simmered Chinese spinach with wolfberries and anchovies. The dish was basic but done well as the broth was light and refreshing with the natural sweetness of the wolfberries and anchovies giving the vegetables a nice flavour

As we had elderly in our dining group, I also ordered fish slices with ginger which is a favourite as the fish slices were succulent and fleshy without any fishy smell. The ginger sauce was not too spicy and gave the fish slices a good fragrance

Another dish I liked was the pan-fried eggplant with scallops in X.O sauce served in a clay pot dish. The eggplant was cooked till soft but not mushy so it was full of flavour from the X.O sauce. The gravy was great when eaten with rice and I like that it is not too salty and you could taste the fragrance of the fried garlic

Last but not least, we had to order soup at Souper Tang and as we wanted something not too herbal, we went for the pepper pig stomach soup with fish maw and mushroom. The soup was served piping hot and the cauldron of soup was packed full of ingredients. The soup was thick and milky and extremely peppery. This is too spicy for those who cannot take pepper spicy, but for those who love peppery soup, this will be the right soup for them. I liked the soup as the taste was deep and flavourful but I found it a tad too spicy from the pepper. My dining group however found the pepper great and loved the spiciness

Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Souper Tang and although the price is slightly on the high side, it was advantageous for me due to the exchange rate. As I found the pepper pig stomach soup too spicy, I would definitely try other types of soup on their menu
