African Connections
"Being that close to the animals, I get a real sense of intimate connection to them."
Nick Brandt
With thanks to Donna for her Connections challenge, I've opened this week with one of my favorite subjects, the majestic creatures of Africa. I've featured them many times throughout the years but couldn't resist sharing some examples of their connections with each other. While it was rare to see members of different species connecting, we were often gifted with seeing homogenous gatherings in pairs or larger groups.
Here on Kiawah we have our own versions of connection, especially with our beautful birds. The two featured below are young eaglets hanging out, most likely awaiting the return of their parents with lunch.
Eaglet Siblings
"Play photographic poker. Look for a pair, two pairs, or three of a kind."
Siegfried Hansen
While on the subject of birds, at nearby Magnolia Gardens visitors are often surprised by the resident peacocks that roam freely near the entry. One thing that always draws my lens is the glory of their beautiful feathers. Note how connected each of the "eyespots" is, helping to create their colorful majesty.
Connect The Dots
"Photography is an art form which means human beings expressing their understanding of and connection with life"
Lisette Model
On a more personal note, a recent photography class had an interesting focus (pun intended) on Still Life. Those who follow me know it's a style I don't typically choose, but I'm always game for experimentation. I chose to include a number of items with personal connections - a scale my husband and I purchased while antiquing one afternoon in upstate NY, two special wine bottles from a California vineyard we visited, a statue we both loved while visiting Paris, my first Nikon (an FM), and three of the books I publish with my blog posts each year. The background and base of the image were created using P/S AI.
Personal Connections
"A photographer's work is given shape and style by his personal vision."
Pete Turner
We found the connection that follows in Argentina when we visited the famous Recoleta Cemetery. It was an excellent if unpleasant reminder to live life to the fullest and to appreciate its many joys while we can.
Creepy Connection
"Life is but a fraction of a second in the history of time, while the photograph is an eternity of time frozen from life."
Conrad Hafenrichter
Sometimes connections that once were can be broken and/or lost. The image that follows is a reminder to keep your connections strong, as once lost they are much more difficult to rebuild.
Lost Connection
"Sometimes you have to disconnect to stay connected."
Regina Brett
Last but not least, I've included an image from our visit to China that still makes me smile. What better way to illustrate connection than a red hat?!
Tourist Connection
"I love those connections that make this big old world feel like a little village."
Gina Bellman
I hope you have as much fun with Donna's challenge as I did. Please remember to link to her post on her beautiful blog site windkisses.com, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to help us find you. Thanks also to John and to all of our followers who responded to last weeks AI challenge. I don't know about you but I learned a lot from the many interesting responses, including the fact that even the WordPress site has an AI component for those interested in an easy dip of the toe into the technology. Last but never least, we hope you'll join us next week when Ritva once again leads us. Until then as always please stay safe, be kind, and enjoy the journey.

Please note, I'll be traveling for the next week and may take a bit longer than usual to respond to comments.
