Breathwork for homeschool moms? But aren't we always breathing?

Why do the experts tell us to breathe when we can't live without breathing?

I've learned it's because we're not always breathing deeply! Intentional breathing slows our physiological systems and makes us feel more calm which leads us to feel quieter and more peaceful.

Which comes in handy as a homeschool mama, don't you think? Let's chat about incorporating breathwork for homeschool moms.

So what is breathwork?

Breathwork is a therapeutic practice that involves conscious control and manipulation of breathing patterns to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Kinda like putting your foot slowly on the break when you're driving your car.

When you practice specific breathing exercises, you're stimulating your parasympathetic nervous system. Which is slowing a whole lotta things in your body: and since we're all curious homeschool moms who like to know the details, I'll give you the official details here.

Ultimately, breathwork makes you feel more at peace, calm, less stressed, and more present. A rather handy state to foster when you're a homeschool mom.

If you haven't already incorporated breathwork into your homeschool mom life, it's time!

Every homeschool mom will benefit from breathwork, and your kids will notice what you're doing and be curious to learn too--and then you'll be giving them a healthy tool for their lives as well.

Benefits of breathwork for homeschool moms...

1. Stress Reduction:

Breathwork helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress, which is crucial for a homeschool moms burnout prevention plan.

2. Enhanced Focus and Clarity:

Regular practice of breathwork can improve concentration and mental clarity, aiding homeschool moms in planning and executing homeschool & life activities more effectively. Less scattered feeling!

3. Improved Emotional Regulation, even when You're Angry:

Breathwork can help manage emotions, providing a tool to calm down during moments of frustration or overwhelm, leading to a more harmonious home environment.

4. Increased Energy Levels:

Certain breathing techniques can invigorate and energize. And who doesn't want that?

5. Better Sleep Quality:

Engaging in breathwork before bedtime can promote better sleep by calming the mind and body, ensuring moms are well-rested and ready for the next day.

6. Enhanced Mind-Body Connection:

Breathwork fosters a deeper connection between mind and body, promoting overall well-being and awareness, which can be beneficial for maintaining physical and mental health.

7. Time-Efficient Self-Care:

Breathwork is a quick and accessible form of self-care that can be done anywhere and at any time, making it easy for you to integrate into your routines.

How into incorporate breathwork for homeschool moms' routines?

No healthy routine happens without intention. So let's see which of the following approaches will help you get breathwork incorporated into your regular homeschool mom routine?

1. Morning Routine:

Start the day with 5-10 minutes of deep breathing exercises to set a calm and focused tone for the day.

2. Mini Breaks:

Take short breaks throughout the day to practice simple breathwork techniques like diaphragmatic breathing or box breathing, especially during homeschooling sessions.

3. Bedtime Routine:

Incorporate a few minutes of relaxing breath work before bed to help unwind and prepare for restful sleep.

4. During Household Chores:

Practice breath awareness while doing routine tasks like washing dishes or folding laundry, turning these moments into opportunities for mindful breathing.

5. Incorporate Breathwork with your Morning Basket Routine:

Include breathwork exercises with the kids: making it a part of their morning routine, which can also help them focus and stay calm.

If you do circle time, morning basket, or any other collective time each morning, consider including as part of your very first activities.

6. Use Reminders:

Set reminders on your phone or place sticky notes on the fridge to remind you to take a few deep breaths at your most triggering times of day.

(Mine was usually around 11 am every weekday, but especially Mondays).

7. Incorporate Guided Sessions:

Use apps or online resources that offer guided breath work sessions to make the practice easier to follow.
