May was a busy month for me, so most of my reading was done via Audible. 🙂
The Husbands by Holly Gramazio | Audible | One night Lauren finds a strange man in her flat who claims to be her husband. All the evidence – from photos to electricity bills – suggests he's right. Lauren's attic, she slowly realises, is creating an endless supply of husbands for her ...
This story was actually much better than I expected. It's a bit rom-com-esque, but the focus is more on Lauren's personal growth than on her finding the perfect husband. As a result, she cycles through the husbands pretty fast and we don't get to know many of them very well ... and of the ones we did get to know, I had a favourite who I was rooting for. 🙂
I found the end slightly disappointing but only because it didn't end how I wanted it to.
Funny Story by Emily Henry | Audible | A fun and funny story about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common. The plot is fast paced and exciting, the romance sweet yet steamy, the characters deep and complex with plenty of childhood trauma. Some great parenting skills explored and a strong love of reading theme throughout.
The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay | Audible | The perfect Cold War thriller involving a CIA agent, the father she believed was dead and her grandfather. It's set in November 1989, the week that the Berlin Wall fell, a time that has particular resonance for me, as I was then stationed in West Germany with the RAF. Definitely on my favourites of the year list.
The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren | Audible | Witty and downright hilarious . . . a perfect feel-good romantic comedy. A few open door scenes.
Oh and fun fact: Christina Lauren is actually two people - Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings.
