Today: Top 10 best luxury hotels on the Riviera Maya, Mexico
Once belonging to the ancient Mayan Empire, Mexico's Riviera Maya comprises a 130 km (80 mi) stretch of Caribbean coastline on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. A single main road - Highway 307 - runs the length of the region, from Cancun to Tulum. Branching eastwards are small roads leading to resorts and the beaches, while westward takes you inland to rural towns and ancient ruins. The area was originally called the "Cancun–Tulum corridor", but in 1999 it was renamed as the Riviera Maya, analogous to the Italian and French Riviera. The Riviera Maya is full of natural and cultural attractions, such as authentic fishing villages and ancient ruins, but it also known as a hotspot for luxury resorts. Here's my selection of the 10 best luxury resorts on the Riviera Maya, Mexico.
