since we live

in order to stay here

turn to things

I live in stories
I read them
write them
and make them up
sadly
many addictions
are destructive or deadly
but no worries
reading
isn't one of those
at least not yet
books have always
taken their readers
to where they want to go
books can let us live
in a peaceful world
or a violent one
where we can actually
take out the bad guys
ourselves
we can buy sweets
in Paris
or walk through Rome
go into the past
or the future
wherever we need to be
at a moment's notice
our leaders conditioned us to believe
that there is no such thing as magic
don't believe them
I think they have done their best
to kill the magic
in everyone of us
so we wouldn't know our own power
but in books
we can see what it looks like
we can remember
we can see a different way
of living
and thinking
that's why books are burned
by those in charge
they are burned
and banned
to get rid of the truth
to get rid of unacceptable ideas
that frighten governments
and leaders
who insist on making us their slaves
when thousands of people kill themselves
just to escape from life
or drown in a bottle
or needle
it's obvious
that something is horribly wrong
when governments
kill their own people
in order to control them
it's obvious
that something is horribly wrong
just know that
our magic is still here
it's still alive
it's simply being held for us
inside of books
books
that will return our magic to us
whenever we are ready
to recognize it
