Today's Bible Reading- 2 Samuel Chapters 17-18.
April's Memory Verse- 1 Thessalonians 5:14-17.
Good morning, my friends. I hope you're well. Our forecast for today: 83°, partly cloudy with 17% chance of rain, winds from the south southwest at 5-14 miles per hour, and humidity it sitting at 83%.
I tell you what. I have some sore muscles today. I spent the first half of the day yesterday outside planting the garden and weed eating. Weed eaters get heavy after a while! I'd crochet or knit, but my muscles need the rest. It's good for me, though. I need to learn how to do these things.
The garden is planted now. I used up most of my seeds. The greenhouse will be used for mainly lettuce and herbs, I think. Most of what I planted I just used the entire packet of seeds because my germination rate has been terrible. It's okay, though. Just means I have room to buy more seeds.
Mom and I picked the first strawberries off the alpine strawberry plant. I think they're alpine. A bit fuzzy on that. They were much sweeter than last year and just a little bit bigger. I think the plant enjoys being in the container I have it in.
The sunberry plants are doing wonderful! I have little clusters of flowers and buds on all three plants. The strawberries I just planted are doing great, too. Runners are popping up, one plant has two flowers and a baby berry on it.
What did I plant in my garden? Corn, beans (black and cowpea), peas, okra, zucchini, some fancy French squash, acorn squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, lima beans, carrots, radishes, parsnips, sweet and hot peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers. Oh yeah. I went a little crazy. My hope is, though, that something will come up!
The library has a book of canning recipes. I'd like to check it out and write down recipes to use. Since we have a glass stovetop that's older, I don't think we can use a water bath canner. We can, however, use a stock pot with a canning rack. I'll have to look for those things. Might cost a little, but it'll be worth it. Can you just imagine homemade salsa? Candied hot peppers? Pasta sauce? Mm. Canned peas, canned corn. Yummy. Homemade pickles! Big yummy!
I do have some sad news. In my haste to get the weed eating done before my arms gave out, I accidentally lopped off half of one of my grapevines. I still have the other half of the plant going, but I genuinely felt bad about hitting it. I hope the rest of the plant is okay.
Oh! Did I mention that the fig is alive? I think I did. That seems familiar to me. That's exciting.
Mm. What else? The greenhouse is doing okay. The fish tank here in the house needs the water changed out. I'd love to get Mr. Fishy and Goldie out there with the plecos, but I'll wait until Pop gets back for that one. The plecos are making mincemeat out of the algae in the tank. They probably think they're in pleco heaven.
That's about all I have for today, peeps. Supper was pretty tasty in my book last night. I'm not sure my mom liked it though. She has a picky palate. The leftovers were stored in the freezer for future use. I've been drinking a smoothie in the mornings this week for a boost. Just frozen fruit, some milk and a scoop of protein powder. It's been nice to have, especially since I was doing yard work these past couple of days.
Tonight is burgers and tots night. I think we're enjoying tots more than fries now. Also, it's grocery day and we are in need of food. I was hunting around for snacks yesterday and there were zero. Nada. Zip.
Today's agenda. I am going to balance the ledgers, get my clothes put away, change the fish water out, get my menu together and make a trip to the store. I think, actually, that I may visit a farm store that's about an hour from my house. Things like laundry detergent and paper plates and stuff can be bought at another store.
Okay. That's it for today. I need to get around, get the ledgers done so I can put Gracie's bed back on the chair. She really likes that setup. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends. ❤
