Daily writing prompt
Describe one positive change you have made in your life.
.
I bought myself a cane.
Two weeks ago my back decided I wasn't resting enough and went on strike. Walking to the bathroom was so painful I sometimes cried. Scooping litter boxes, feeding cats, and pushing the trash bin to the road was hard. I spent a couple of days working on my laptop while lying on the sofa because reclining was the only way I could get comfortable.
The cane has made a world of difference. I am better able to move around and it alleviates the pressure on my bum hip. I can move faster for longer and with greater stamina. I am able to do things I struggled with. I'm glad I made the purchase.
I'm also in my feelings about it. Buying a cane is an act of acceptance, and I don't like having to accept my current condition. I haven't dared use it outside my home yet. I'm telling you about this so I no longer feel the need to hide it from the world.
Using a cane means I accept I am not well. It means I need to see a doctor. I haven't been to one in a couple of years. I don't like doctors as a rule because my history with medical folks is I haven't been heard and I don't see why I should pay to be treated that way. But I bit the bullet and made an appointment for next week.

I'm logged in and hoping I can do some gig work this evening. So far the orders suck; lots of heavy items and not a lot of pay. I'm not in any condition to sit in my car in a parking lot to wait for a decent order. It's Friday so maybe these shoppers will go on home and let me get some work.
No, don't you dare ask the Universe to send me decent work. I bought lottery tickets, dammit. Ask to let me win some money so I don't need to work a second job. I accept I don't have the kahunas to be a con artist, and I have to get my money honest. Sometimes I wish I did have it in me. You don't see many of them suffering consequences for their actions. Oh well, I have to accept that, too.
I hope you are doing better than I am. Take care of yourself.
