my daughter said
let's go to the pet cemetery
so we went
and let me tell you
you will never see the same things
written in stone
in a human cemetery
the outpouring of love
for the animals
was literally overwhelming
the grief was suffocating
I couldn't even read some of the things
engraved on headstones
it was like watching someone
bleed out in front of you
the sadness
the loss
the pain
but the beauty was there as well
the outpouring of love
the adorable and funny names
the photographs
and engraved pictures of the fuzzy ones
showed how much love was given
to those beautiful little ones
who had gone on ahead
there was a place set aside for horses
bronze plaques
with their names and even raised statues
of the horses themselves
there were some humans there as well
buried with their "babies"
and each family loved one
certain breed
all the same dogs
and maybe a cat or two
sayings
if love could have saved you
you would live forever
statues
flowers
and a grave for a guinea pig
photographs
candles
everything that showed
attention
grief
loss
and love
I must say that several
of the monuments
had to cost over a million dollars
thick black standing granite slabs
multiple companion animals
and maybe a person
there were also tiny markers
which were about fifteen hundred dollars
bronze and the size of a small tile
people spared no expense
for their companions
they would have done anything
there was a grave for a butterfly
and one for a ladybug
the grass was winter brown
no leaves on the trees
but I believe it's lovely
in the summer
people left statues
of cats
and dogs
by the graves
we stayed for quite awhile
talking to them
loving their names
and realizing that real love
can be found there
where people go to
love those who have given all of themselves
those who have been there
never wavering
always accepting
you can find all of those things
below
and above the ground
at the pet cemetery
it's a pace where true love lives
❤️
