If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli films, you would have watched Kiki's delivery service. Koriko Cafe is based on Kiki's delivery service and everything from their decorations to the desserts are made from inspiration from Kiki or her cat Jiji
Located in Yeonnam-dong which is rapidly becoming a popular place for unique cafes in Seoul, Koriko Cafe is located in a residential neighbourhood and can be easily missed if you are not specifically looking for it. The building is brick-based with an almost mystical entrance resembling the iconic brick yellow house in Kiki's delivery
The courtyard is spacious with seats for customers who are waiting for a table when the cafe is full and the window dress-up is also a replicate of Kiki's delivery service house. There are 3 stories to the house with the rooftop being the open-air level with al Fesco tables and umbrellas
Once you enter the house, it gives a warm and friendly vibe just like visiting a friend's house. The left side of the house is the merchandise area where they sell all kinds of Studio Ghibli merchandise. The right side of the house has a seating area as well as the main order counter where you put in the order for drinks and desserts. We took a table at level 2 which has many spots which is great for photos
We ordered some of the signature stuff which includes the Jiji mousse cake, Jiji cream tart which is shaped like a cup with chocolate mousse and the iced americano with a special Jiji the cat ice topping at an additional charge. I loved the iced americano as it was well balanced and the coffee cat ice did not dilute the flavours and it was absolutely cute to watch the cat slowly melt away. The mousse cake was slightly too sweet for me and very heavy on the stomach but chocolate lovers would adore it. Lastly, the tart was buttery but slightly hard since they needed it to hold the cup shape. The cream was light when paired with the chocolate cream inside the cup
Overall, I liked the atmosphere more than the desserts. While they looked very pretty and cute for the camera, they were not astonishingly delicious that I would especially return just for a particular item. I do give them points for creating such cute desserts and fans of Studio Ghibli should definitely visit the cafe to get an experience of living in the movie
