And welcome back to another Life Of A Law Student post! For today's post, I'm going to give you a summary/guide to Constitutional Law. This is another compulsory class so chances are that you will take some iteration of this class during your time in law school.
Now, the point of this class is to help you understand your country's constitution and its functions and powers. So, some of the topics you may focus on are:
- purpose of constitutions
- parliamentary sovereignty, the Crown (not the Netflix show, the actual institution), governor-general and royal prerogatives powers
- seperation of powers
- human rights
- emergency powers
My advice would be to revise the content from your Legal Systems class (linked here). A lot of the topics you study in this class build on information you would have learned (or at the very least, been introduced to briefly) in this class. So, think of Legal Systems as a foundation class and Constitutional Law is the next step up. Also, this is another class you need to be mindful of the language and legal terms used.
Overall, this class (hopefully) won't be too difficult since you should be familiar with some of the topics already. This is a short guide, but I hope it is still useful. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
