| rrluthi Nov 1 | Movement is medicine for the body, mind, and soul. 4 Tips How to Move, on two feet: - Time it right: Try walking at a brisk pace of 120 steps per minute (two steps per second), which links our footsteps to our heartbeats and adds a small but significant increase in blood flow to our brains, contributing to a euphoric feeling of movement.
- Go somewhere: If you are on two feet, two wheels or another modality, get outside and move. Psychological research studies show that mentally moving forward through space directs our thoughts to the future and away from depressive rumination, which can make the past feel more distant.
- Wander to think: Walking or running at a pace that feels easy can down regulate the "thinking" brain and allow our minds to wander in a way that increases creativity and problem-solving. Go for a quick walk or jog before a meeting for a mental boost!
- Defy gravity: Applying weight to our bones stimulates the release of osteocalcin, which improves memory and can protect our brains as we age.
