There are many things you regularly do to help navigate in the snow such as checking your heating, insulating your home and stocking up on supplies should the snowfall be particularly heavy. Buy snow gear
If the snowfall is very heavy, there's a good chance you may still have to venture out. Whether that's to get to work or to buy more supplies, you'll need an effective method of transport. If the car is snowed in and buses aren't running, you'll need to make sure you've got some snow gear to travel around. Buy snowshoes to help you easily walk through the snow and ice, and be sure to buy a thick winter coat to keep yourself warm, particularly if you've got a fair distance to travel. Sunglasses, a warm hat and gloves are also a nice addition.
Replace your tires
If you live in a country that's prepared when it comes to snowfall, there's a good chance you'll still be able to use your car. Even when roads are gritted and cleared, there's still a chance that there will still be some snow and ice on the roads. Preparing yourself with super swamper tires will allow you to make your way through the snow and ice with ease and most importantly, safely. Even if they're not needed for 90% of the year, you can change your old tires as and when needed.
Check for drafts
You may not notice drafts that have formed in your windows and doors during the warmer months, but now is the time to check. You want to be able to keep your home nice and toasty when it's cold out. If you do find drafts, you can either have them professionally fixed, or, if you're on a budget, you can buy draft excluders to help prevent any cold air from getting in. In the long run, though, it might be worth putting the money in and getting all drafts sealed permanently.
Get outside with your camera
No matter who you are or how old you are, one thing we can universally agree on as a species is that snow is stunning. Use your free time to go exploring to take some breathtaking pictures and share them online. The fresh air is good for your mind, body and soul, and the takeaway is you are loaded with beautiful winterland imagery that you can enjoy. Create a winter emergency kit

If the temperature drops too much, any water left in them could freeze and cause the pipes to burst, giving you another cost to take care of. It's a good idea to have a professional come and drain the sprinkler system so you can be 100% sure there's nothing left during the winter season.
