A couple weeks ago I shared information about Happy Mammoth, a supplement brand helping women rebuild their foundation and restore optimal help. Supplements are a great place to start, but there is so much more to health and balance outside of just what we put into our bodies, and this week, as I said in my last healthy hack post, I want to help you get your body into it's optimal health zone, so you can avoid all the sicknesses that start to rise around the holidays, and can linger beyond. These are 5 things I have truly found to be helpful in restoring overall balance to the body. They are perfect for stressful holiday times, but will continue to change your health game for you year round.
1. Bed of Nails: I promise I am not attempting to torture you with these health hacks. This one sounds and looks painful, but it is the exact opposite. Laying on the Bed of Nails mat helps alleviate tension, pressure and pain. We all have that at some point in our lives, whether it's from sitting at a desk for work, toting children around, or holiday stress. The practice of laying on an actual bed of nails started over 1,000 years ago, but Bed of Nails has created a modern, ergonomic way of acheiveing the same results ancient healers did. Just simply laying on this accupressure mat helps release endorphins, which in turn relaxes the body, eases sore muscles, and best of all gives a boost of happiness. It does take a little getting used to, but once you feel the benfits, you're hooked. I even like to put it in the car now for long drives - it's something your body almost starts to crave!
2. Helight: Sleep is a crucial part of overall health. I have read studies saying American's have shortened life spans due to lack of sleep. Sometimes we tell ourselves we really don't need much sleep and we can run just fine on a few hours a night. But we need to stop lying to ourselves! Sleep helps our nervous system, our brain function, our hormones and so much more. Helight's red therapy sleep light is a wonderful tool for anyone looking for better, deeper sleep. I kid you not, when I use this I sleep so soundly and so deeply, plus I fall asleep so fast. The first few nights I had the weirdest dreams and thought it had to be something with the red light, but realized it's just because I was finally getting into a deep sleep cycle. The dreams have subsided but the restful night of sleep have not. Good sleep can be truly be as simple as pressing a button!
3. Facial Massage: When we feel tense and stressed we often think of a full body massage as a way to relax our muscles and our bodies. But did you know you store just as much tension in your face as you do your body? Think of all the muscles in the face and the many expressions you make throughout the day - I bet it's a lot! Heck, even smiling, while joyful, can cause tension. This is why I love a good facial massage and it's something I practice daily. And no, I don't have a masseuse coming into my home, and I'm not at the salon every day. This is something you can do yourself, just a few minutes in the morning or the evening as you are getting ready for your day or winding down from it. An added perk - not only does facial massage help ease tension, it helps you look younger. Lines, wrinkles and stress be gone! Follow my 5 Minute Facelift for the best moves to start with.
4. Hair ResQ Natural Shampoo: Obviously what we put into our bodies affects our health but what we put on them is just as important. Our skin is our largest organ and absorbs everthing we put on it, from head to toe. Using clean products with natural ingredients is the smartest thing we can do to "health hack" our skincare, which will subsequently affect our overall health. I like that Hair ResQ is not only made of clean ingredients but that it helps return hair to it's former glory, that other products may have stripped away. It helps with thickness, strenght and hair growth. It works best when you use the shampoo and conditioner along with the serum. Petal Fresh Pure make products for many other hair needs too!
5. Walking: This is as basic of health hack as you can find, but wow is it impactful. We live in a world where we sit, a lot. Maybe it's working at a computer all day, watching TV at night, driving everywhere or some other form of sedentary activity. As health experts now say, sitting is the new smoking. Gross! Walking not only is for exercise, it's for stress relief, meditation, digestion...I could go on, and on. Start small and make improvements from there. Simply walking around the block for 5 to 10 minutes to start your day and get some sun on your face can have major benefits for overall health. Then maybe you can walk a few blocks, or twice a day, or to the store or a restaurant. Whatever you do, just make time for movement!
These 5 simple health hacks will help you through the holiday season and beyond!
