Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
(Colossians 1:16 (NIV))
What is your outlook on the world?
Do you see the world as yours? Do you see it as something that you must master in order to get what you want out of life? To reference an old saying, is the world your oyster and are you trying to claim your pearl?
Too many people, even people who profess a faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, have the attitude that the things of this world are theirs for the taking. Based on this passage, it is clear that the world and everything in it belongs to the Lord. If we are trying to claim the things of this world as our own, are we guilty of trying to put ourselves above God? Are we guilty of doing the very same thing that Satan did? Are we guilty of pride?
We must recognize that our lives are fleeting. We must remember our place in God's creation.
The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
(Psalm 103:15-16 (NIV))
After a wild flower dies, does anyone remember what it truly looked like? Does anyone remember it when it was one in a million in the same field?
God does!
He also knows you be name. He has numbered the hairs on your head. He remembers you because He created you. He remembers you because He loves you.
If you think that your purpose in life is to be a doctor, a lawyer, a dancer, an artist, a musician, or simply a friend, you have a bigger purpose in life. God created each of us to be in relationship with Him. It broke His heart when humanity fell from grace. Why else would He have sent His Son?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
(John 3:16-18 (NIV))
Everything was created through Him and for Him.
So, where does that leave you?
I pray you realize that you are part of all things!
