Roast duck is easily my favourite food and I am constantly on a quest to find the best roast duck and roast pork in Singapore. While I have found the best roast pork in Malaysia KL, read here, I have yet to find the one whom I can declare king until I chanced upon Foong Kee

Previously located at Keong Siak Street, Foong Kee is famed for their roast meats and has a strong following. Serving their popular roast for 20 years, Foong Kee took a break in June 2021 and foodies were all sad to lose a great stall. At the beginning of this year, Foong Kee reopened in Commonwealth Crescent market and food centre and that was how I chanced upon them during my lunch break

Looking at the snaking queue, I was convinced that this stall was going to be good. While my colleague offered to stand in the queue, I sat down and started to google Foong Kee and this is when I realised this is the stall from Keong Siak Street. I have heard about the extremely delicious roast meats from Foong Kee since I was a child but never had the chance to try them out so this added to my excitement while I waited for my colleague to come back with the prized meal

Their offerings were simple and affordable at SGD 4 for char siew rice or roast pork rice. For duo meats, the price is SGD 5.50 but if you wish to pair it with duck, it will be SGD 6 and for a combination of all meats, it will cost SGD 8. They also sell their roast meats for SDG 50 /kg and a whole duck at SGD 60

During my first visit, I wanted the duck and roast meat combo while my colleagues did the duck and char siew combo. The first meat I bit into was roast pork and it totally melted in my mouth with extremely crispy skin and flavourful meat. It was the best roast meat I have tasted in Singapore and can match the one I found in KL. It was so good I wished I ordered 1KG just to munch on. The roast pork set my expectations really high and I bite into the duck expecting the same heavenly flavours. While the duck and char siew were equally delicious, I felt that they were not the best as I have eaten equally nice ones from Roast Paradise, Kay Lee or Tiong Bahru market. The champion for me was the roast pork and don't get me wrong, the char siew was great with caramelised bits and burnt ends and the duck with crispy skin and succulent meat but the roast pork was out of this world. My colleague liked the char siew so it really depends on individual preference

We visited another day and ordered the triple combo but changing the duck to the drumstick and this plate was SGD 10.50 and well worth it. As we carried this to our tables, we sensed eyes of envy looking at our table as getting the drumstick was like striking a lottery. We did not manage to get it the last round as they were running out of duck so to get all 3 plates was definitely having lady luck smiling on us. This round, the drumstick did win back some honours as the melted fats under the skin burst into our mouth with such intense flavours, it was such an enjoyment just biting into the duck

Overall, Foong Kee has easily become my favourite stall for roast meats since all of their roast meats were of top grade and the queue of 10 mins is well worth it. As my colleague says " Having this for lunch just made my entire day the best day"
