What if there's a pirate hiding in fog
dancing across the lake? This skittish dog
means nothing's typical: alert, eyes wide
while esoteric in the trees confide
their devoted affection, we remain
oblivious, our direction constrained
by happenstance. Blue jay alarm, cat bird
call intervals surprised by what we've heard
these ancient aviators swoop and wing
inspiring our periphery they sing
as we pass, pup's nose to the grass, while I
breathe deeply celebrate the morning sky
