Getting the motivation to get into the gym and get a good workout can be tough on days. Not everyone loves going to the gym or exercising, and that is ok, but finding ways to motivate yourself to get your workout done can be just as beneficial mentally as doing the workout itself.
But how can you motivate yourself to get moving in the first place? After all, the gym can be lonely if you don't enjoy it, and your workouts will become a little bit harder. And before you know it, you have paid for a year's membership only to visit a handful of items before giving up on your fitness journey.
If you need extra support or motivation to get into the zone when there or even get in the doors in the first place, then these tips can help you.
Buddy Up
If being on your own is a major factor in how often you go to the gym or your performance when you are there, then you need a buddy. Ask a friend to go with you, or talk to your home and find out if any regular gym goers would be interested in working out alongside you when you go.
Or why not ask in local neighbourhood groups or outreach ventures to find like-minded others who need support when working out too? You might find you can widen your social circle, make new friends and get your workout goals smashed in one fell swoop.
Plan Ahead
Sometimes, the hardest part of going to the gym is the fact that you need to get ready to go. For example, if you are swapping out your work gear into workout clothing or need to take a lot of equipment with you for class or swimming, this can be off-putting.
Getting everything ready the night before or earlier in the day can remove some of the preparation time and allow you to grab your things and leave when the time comes. Throw your gym bag in the car when you leave for the day, book ahead you have to go or put it on your calendar so you have no excuse that you weren't prepared.
Good Music Or Entertainment
No one likes the gym member who hogs the equipment doing minimal reps while scrolling social media, but you do need to be entertained at the gym. Setting your playlist, finding the right workout tunes, taking headphones, and knowing how to control spotify on apple watch are all ways you can be prepared to keep your mind occupied while you work your body.
Download that box set you have been watching to keep you busy on the treadmill, or select your motivation tunes for your time in the free weight section and so on. Have the music boost you need in place to help you motivate yourself to get the workout done.
Track And Reward
Reward charts for kids are popular because they work. And reward charts and progress trackers for the gym are also popular for adults because they work in the same way. Combine your goals with rewards for added motivation and support when you least feel like lacing up your trainers and heading out.
Having a visual reminder of how far you have come and what you have achieved or are working towards can be a massive motivation boost, especially if you see results. Speaking of which, keep those results front and centre in your mind to help you avoid falling back into bad habits. Once you hit one goal, you can move on to the next and use this to spur you on.
Get A Trainer
Nothing is more motivating than a perusal trainer who is ready to support the changes you want to make or help you improve your workouts. If you want to be held accountable and earn the correct techniques and methods for the results, working with a PT can help you stay motivated and on track. Whether you use one session a week or three, or your PT is more of a once-a-month deal, they can support you when you struggle to get up and get into the gym.
Finding your motivation to work out can be hard. Not everyone enjoys this process; for some, the added push can be all the difference between setting foot on the workout mats and turning around and going home. Whatever works for you, make sure you rely on something that will take you in the right direction, not support your desire to stop and give up.
