Ho Chi Minh City is a city famous for its motorbikes and its food. Like a petit Paris, it is a destination of choice for connoisseurs of Vietnamese and French food. Whilst staying at Fusion Orginal situated in Saigon Centre, I ventured with my family to the 24th floor, for some unique ambience and food delights.
Miss Thu restaurant is located on the top floor and offers amazing views as well as food, it caters to both locals and expatriates alike. She takes you on a rare and unique journey of tapping into senses that one may not even be aware of.
Interior Design
Miss Thu's interior design is sleek, contemporary bright, and colourful in design, which fuses the functions of a dining room and a bar area. Located in Saigon's District 1, it offers amazing views. These unobtrusive views allowed me to indulge in both city ambience as well as being entertained in a very comfortable seating situation. This picturesque restaurant in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City provided me with an escape from the city's chaos any time of the day or evening. It is also open to outside guests looking for a luxury eating experience.
The quirky artwork is worth taking a closer look at as it is all about Miss Thu and her passion for life.
Breakfast
Breakfast has two options, a buffet that offers fresh pastries and a continental breakfast. Both encompass french pastries, delightful macarons, and cakes. Lots of locally made jams, fresh fruit, and nuts. Each dedicated area offers many food options to get your day started.
A la Carte
The second option is from an a la carte selection and multi-course degustation meals. Also on offer are delightful handmade toasted sweet bread, sourdough, parmesan cheese, and traditional Vietnamese soups.
For those waffle and pancake lovers you can order as many as you like. The fresh cereals with local yoghurt on hand meant the breakfast was an indulgence of pure gastronomy at its finest.
Dining
Exceptionally talented Arnaud Daleau. French chef oversees operations at Miss Thu. With a wealth of experience both abroad, in Sydney Australia, and here in Saigon he has created a space where he may explore French, Vietnamese and Italian gastronomy at his own tempo, in a setting meant to exploit the potential of the finest ingredients on offer.
Diners may choose from a variety of delectable menu options. This upscale floor-to-ceiling window experience with Vietnamese fusion-inspired flavours took me and my family on Miss Thu's unforgettable journey.
Entree
For the entree, we had a Sharon 72-hour sourdough bread teamed with confit garlic butter and other delightful Asian sauces.
We had king crab with soba noodles, with cilantro with tentsuyu. This was a refreshing and very unique dish.
Oysters came our way tasting fresh and they were teamed with mignonette, pickled mango, and shiso dressing.
The presentation of the Wagyu beef carpaccio was a pure palette delight with Parmigiano, pickled shallots and a Vietnamese emulsion.
Mains
Proudly Vietnamese
We opted for Wagyu pho a beef tenderloin with rice noodles and amazing Vietnamese herbs. This is a high-end pho you will not find every day. It was presented raw and then a very hot soup was poured into it for a memorable eating experience.
Where The East And West Collide
This unforgettable dining experience was due to a fusion of Asian touches with European flare. This succulent Argentinian beef tenderloin with chimichurri was divine, so very tender indeed. We ordered french fries and oven-roasted baby carrots with Vietnamese chimichurri and hazelnuts, they were delicious.
The Sai Gon scallops with Vietnamese eggplant and scallion ca ri sauce were icing on the cake. The presentation was gorgeous a true work of gastronomy art. The eatble flowers are just picture perfect too.
Sweets
Fads come and go, but one thing that will never change is the allure of baked goods. Indulgent baked goods have always been a popular go-to for both happy occasions and stressful, pick-me-up moments. What a wonderful way to begin with a Hoa loc mango cheesecake. Mango is a core ingredient in Asia and team it with passion fruit sorbet and it's a win-win luxury. For me desserts need to be beautifully presented and made with passion.
Come join me on a Tira-Miss-Thu, a blend of savoiardi biscuit, black coffee, mascarpone, and Marou cocoa powder. The taste and presentation were a real hidden gem. With a chocolate cup on top of the cup and the pouring of Vietnamese coffee, the experience left me licking my lips wanting more.
As a food trend-setting indulgence the Marou chocolate looked elegant and tasted amazing. This meaningful difference by selecting local ingredients such as banana, mac khen pepper, and cocoa biscuit was a delight for dessert lovers.
Bakers are bringing spicy and bold twists to their creations. Here at Miss Thu the dessert experience is a place of pure art, indulgence, and creativity. By blurring the boundaries of both presentation experiences and between sweet and savoury.
Conclusion
Our eating experience at Miss Thu's as a family left us in pure heavens delight, it is one of high quality in both culinary flavours and presentation. It is a beautiful fusion of Vietnamese cuisine that meets western cuisine. The setting is great with all-around views over Saigon as well as an interior design which creates a fusion of traditional Vietnam and modern design. Yes, it is a Fusion Orginal at Saigon Centre. What are you waiting for, it is time to indulge.
