Hi. Whew, what a ride the past few days have been! Some real high highs, but mostly some unexpected lows that included a full day of post-Thanksgiving blues for me and then both Dempsey and I getting a stomach virus. Would not wish the sight of your child being sick on anyone! Luckily, he is better and I am better and Joey never got sick, so he could take care of us all Let's get into it!
Had a lovely Thanksgiving Eve (yes, this is a thing ) and Thanksgiving Day. Turns out Dempsey loves Uncle ramen as much as we do and he loves steamed buns maybe even more than we do! Got to start Thanksgiving Day by watching the parade with our boy and he maybe grabbed my coffee cup while I was being distracted by Harry Connick Jr. as Daddy Warbucks Joey rocked the turkey (it was SO GOOD and that's coming from someone who does not give a s*** about turkey) and I only sort of burnt the hell out of the rolls Dempsey got a little taste of everything and loved it all! Especially the cranberry sauce?? This kid! I was BEAT by the end of the night and just wanted to put our son to bed and watch a movie, but it was not meant to be.
Friday was a bummer day and this is the only photo I took. Joey and I got our booster shots and hey, they weren't so bad! Sore arms but nothing else, so I'll take it. We also took our Dempsey boy to the park and just look at his little smile. He had the best time sliding back UP the slide, thanks to Joey Still didn't get to watch my movie because we HAD to watch the Great British Bake Off finale, right?? I was totally nervous after that technical challenge but I'm so happy with the outcome. Phew!
Unfortunately, this was also the night Dempsey woke up sobbing at 1 AM and we discovered he had thrown up! He continued to do so like every half hour for the rest of the night. Literally one of the saddest things I've ever witnessed. Joey and I traded off sitting up with him on the couch all night, so we were kind of zombie-like come Saturday morning.
Demps was better by 7 AM, hallelujah! Go figure, we planned to order Snooze that morning but he actually managed to eat some, though it was definitely not any of that pancake He was so low-energy all day though, so much couch-potato-ing ensued. We rarely ever watch TV with him, but that's just where we were that day and I think that's okay. Felt like he was a sleepy newborn all over again and hey, I didn't mind it, just wish it wasn't because he didn't feel well. Joey put up our Christmas lights too and I'm still thinking about the big smile on Dempsey's face when we took him outside that night to see them
MY MOVIE, FINALLY!!!!! So me to have no idea tick, tick...BOOM! was even coming out this weekend and then finding out and immediately being mad every night that we didn't watch it I LOVED IT!!!! We were about three seconds into the opening number when I came to that opinion. If you know me, you know I LOVE RENT and this so sounds and feels like RENT that I can't not love it. And Andrew Garfield knocked me right out. He's SO GOOD! Been listening to the soundtrack on repeat ever since.
Was ready to have one redeeming day for the weekend, but it was not meant to be again! Dempsey seemed MUCH better and just a little bit tired still (the only silver lining is that he's been sleeping extra well!). Felt like we had too much to get done that day after mostly chilling out on Friday and Saturday, but we did manage to get our indoor Christmas decorations (sans the tree) up. If you know Dempsey, you know he's been obsessed with these votives full of miniature pumpkins and acorns we've had out all fall (they literally all have teeth marks in them and I'm sure each and every grandparent has loved having to walk him over to them 100x a day ), so we let him play with them one last time then put them away while he was napping. I felt weirdly emotional about it because they gave him such joy and he probably won't even remember/care about them next year
Before we knew it, it was time to head to Red Rocks for our holiday drive in movie. We weren't sure how it was going to be having a busy 13-month-old trapped in the car to "watch" a movie but it went pretty much how you'd expect it to, aka he basically just wanted to crawl around, breathe onto my window and draw little shapes into it and turn the dial on the radio We were just about to get to the good part of Home Alone when I said "um, I think I'm going to be sick." We rushed home and while Joey was putting Dempsey to bed, I was laying on the bathroom floor. Fun times! Made me so sad to think that was how Dempsey felt Friday night To top it all off, Joey had to run over to the office because something was leaking. We were a mess! I think I'm pretty much back to normal today and luckily Joey seems to be in the clear, THANK GOD.
I hope your Thanksgivings were less roller-coastery!
