Bowman Fork has long been one of my favorite areas accessed from Mill Creek Canyon, and using the Alexander Basin connector trail, you have the option of making a loop out of this beautiful area rather than an out-and-back. And, because the two trailheads are only a few miles apart, you can complete the loop without cars if you want.

The connector trail leaves the Bowman Fork trail right near the 3-mile mark. From there, the trail wraps around the north side of Gobbler's Knob to the beautiful Alexander Basin. You will connect into the Alexander Basin trail at an elevation lower than you left the Gobbler's Knob trail, but you'll experience a series of up-and-down climbs between the two trails. I was mistaken in expecting a level to down-hill experience between the two trails.

The descent out of Alexander Basin is very steep, especially as you near the Mill Creek Canyon road. In the winter, this can be very slick, so hike with caution.
