This Saturday the town and Library is Celebrating : Summer Reading with a Scavenger Hunt and a Book Reading Under the Oaks. It's a great way to get the whole town involved with our program and introduce them to the services the Library supplies.

Public Schools in St. Landry Parish School District have an average math proficiency score of 61% (versus the Louisiana public school average of 64%), and reading proficiency score of 68% (versus the 70% statewide average).

Town Scavenger Hunt:

holding an outdoor scavenger hunt in the neighborhood—the same way you would have a nature hunt. This kind of hunt can be a fun ice-breaker activity for meeting neighbors. It's also a great way to keep kids occupied during a neighborhood block party.

Neighborhood scavenger hunt ideas:

  • Find specific landmarks or locations around town and mark them off. And grab a clue sheet.
  • Follow the clue sheets to find a prizes or fun activities at each stop. ( Prizes, color sheets, food and games )

Last stop of the day is At the Library :

Inside a fun book hunt and outside for reading and snacks.

Under the Oaks : Reading Event

Later meet the Mayor under the oaks for a books and snacks.

Sophisticated city mouse Chicory never imagined she would venture beyond her elegant Creole home in New Orleans—until she falls asleep in a picnic basket and wakes up in the Cajun swamps! There she meets Roux, a simple country mouse, and together they experience the bucolic bayou life. Chicory persuades Roux to see what the city has to offer, and they journey to New Orleans for a taste of Creole culture. Idyllic picnics and lavish white-linen luncheons offer both delights and frights in this Southern retelling of Aesop's classic fable. Whimsical illustrations and two original songs make this a story you won't forget!
