"Therefore I consider all Your precepts to be right;

I hate every false way."

Psalms 119:128

My take: Yes, sometimes its good to hate. Sometimes. Yeah, sometimes hate is good when its just. It means you value truth and love over lying and evil.

Where should we look for our standard? Agnostic philosophers, little children, the animal kingdom, politicians, hollywood actors? No, no, no, no, no. 1st and foremost should be God and specifically the clear and undeniable precepts found within.

pre·cept ˈprēˌsept/Submit
noun plural noun: precepts

  1. a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought.
    "moral precepts"
synonyms: principle, rule, tenet, canon, doctrine, command, order, decree, dictate, dictum, injunction, commandment.

God, in His infinite wisdom, gave us the ability to choose; to exercise our free will. Why? For sure, you need to ask Him. I speculate after years of thought that its because of love. To truly love in this world of opposites and extremes it requires our ability to choose not to love or its contrived and manipulated.

Is the opposite of love to hate? No, the it is essentially 'indifference, the lack of love'. God at His core is love, so proclaims the Bible. The pinnacle of this can be found in John 3:16. Don't you know that one by heart? Just in case and because i love it, here it is: "For God so loved the world, that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

So godly hate is not the opposite of love rather its a force that aims to stop whatever power that attacks the roots of love. It is having passion, righteous anger towards whatever influence impedes true love from blossoming and staying healthy.

"O you who love the LORD, hate evil!"

In Psalm 97:10a we find,

Right now, extremest Muslims are jihading for this cause. They have plenty of hate but desperately lacking love and most certainly a relationship with the one and true God and His beloved son, Jesus Christ. So it so important to keep rightous hate in check by greater love.

"There are six things that the Lord hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:

haughty eyes,

a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked plans,

feet that make haste to run to evil,

a false witness who breathes out lies,

and one who sows discord among brothers."

Proverbs 6:16 — 19

My prayer: LORD, I want love what You love and hate what You hate. Help me to love the sinner and hate the sin. To love myself and hate the sin entrenched in my old man, my flesh. I know love wins and You are love. Amen!
